Trinity Accessibility & Sustainability Event Generator

The Accessibility & Sustainability Event Generator is designed to provide clear and concise access information for events. Having clear information is very important for an event to be as sustainable, accessible, and inclusive as possible, and ensuring that physical and digital spaces are accessible to everyone. No event is truly accessible without the information to say that it is. Ensuring that events are fully accessible is crucial for inclusivity. Fostering a sense of belonging in events ensures success for all.

The Trinity Accessibility & Sustainability Event Generator is a collaboration between Trinity disAbility Service, Trinity Sustainability and Shout for More - The "Shout for More" initiative aims to amplify the voices of disabled students, offering them a platform to share feedback on the support and services they receive from their colleges. As well as a tool for reporting incidents of disability discrimination. The Trinity Ability co_op are also happy to give advice on how to make your event more accessible and inclusive for both students, and staff. You can also email them at abilitycoop@gmail.com for more information.

Individuals or groups wishing to hold events on College property (indoor or outdoor) on or off the main campus are required to make an application, normally two weeks in advance, at the Enquiries Office, Regent House. An electronic application form is available here below for this purpose. Permission to host such events is then sought from the Junior Dean. Please refer to the Junior Dean - Events and Parties page for more information.

Neurodivergent Individuals

When planning an event that is inclusive of neurodivergent individuals, it's essential to consider their unique needs and preferences. If possible, try to put support mechanisms or accommodations in place, such as providing a designated quiet space, providing clear signage, or having support staff available to assist neurodivergent attendees in navigating and enjoying the event comfortably. Neurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways; there is no one "right" way of thinking, learning, and behaving, and difference are not viewed as deficits. Visit the DU Neurodiversity Society or DUNeS to learn more about Neurodiversity (opens in a new window).

Have you made provisions for a designated quiet space?

NOTE: Events can be overwhelming for many people. Providing a quiet, sensory-friendly space is important so people can take a break from the main event. Find out more about creating a sensory-friendly environment at the TCD Sense Project page (opens in a new window).

For information about the sensory environments in different areas of Trinity and physical access information for buildings across campus, visit the Sensory Map (opens in a new window).

Have you made provisions to create a sensory-friendly environment?

Consider factors like lighting, noise levels, and providing quiet spaces, to accommodate attendees who might be sensitive to sensory stimuli.

Is event information, instructions, and communications clear, concise, and provided in multiple formats?

(e.g., written, visual, verbal) to cater to diverse cognitive processing styles.

Audio & Visual

More information on making media accessible can be found at Social Media Accessibility (opens in a new window).

Are the presentation slides (MS PowerPoint etc.) accessible?
